1 Killed, 3 Injured in Atascadero Single-Vehicle Crash
ATASCADERO, CA (July 5, 2020) – Police identified Kyle Leventhal as the victim who died in a rollover crash on Highway 101 on Sunday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near the Del Rio Road off-ramp around 2:00 PM.
Based on a report, a 2007 Lexus was traveling on the highway toward Del Rio when it suddenly swerved towards the right shoulder. It attempted to turn left in an effort to go back into the lanes. However, the car continued traveling outside the lanes. In addition, it overturned on the dirt and grass embankment before coming to rest on its roof in the dirt. The vehicle then became fully engulfed in flames within minutes of the crash.
Multiple bystanders helped four occupants escape the vehicle before it caught on fire. 20-year-old Kyle Leventhal, a passenger in the car, died at the scene. The driver, identified as 20-year-old Grant Cosko, and two passengers, 20-year-olds Adam Joss and Carter Norton, all sustained minor to moderate injuries.
At this time, officials do not suspect drugs or alcohol were involved. However, CHP is still investigating the cause of the crash.
