Officer Injured in Hit-and-Run on 10 Freeway Near New Avenue [Alhambra, CA]
Officer Hospitalized Following Hit-and-Run Accident in Alhambra
ALHAMBRA, CA (June 23, 2020)—A patrol officer sustained injuries in Sunday’s hit-and-run chain-reaction crash on the 10 Freeway near South New Avenue.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Gina Jojola, although the 30-year-old officer sustained serious injuries, he remains in stable condition.
Investigators are searching for the driver of the Scion who started the chain-reaction crash on the westbound freeway.
Reports say that around 1:25 p.m., the unnamed officer pulled over a BMW, parking his 2013 Ford Police Interceptor Utility Vehicle behind it on the freeway shoulder. Shortly after, a Scion driver traveling in the No. 2 lane moved into the next lane over, cutting in front of a Toyota RAV4.
In order to avoid the imminent crash, the RAV4 veered to the right, where it rear-ended the CHP SUV, which then pushed into the BMW vehicle.
However, investigators are not clear as to which car struck and seriously injured the officer.
The 32-year-old Monterey Park woman operating the Toyota stayed at the scene. Neither she nor the BMW driver suffered any injuries.
The officer, however, required immediate medical assistance for his major injuries. As a result, paramedics brought him to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center.
Anyone who can help investigators determine the Scion driver’s identity, please call the investigating officer, M. Cisneros, at the East Los Angeles CHP Office at 323-980-4600.
