2 Injured in Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Accident on Petaluma Boulevard [Petaluma, CA]
Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Accident Involving Truck Leaves 2 Hospitalized in Petaluma
PETALUMA, CA (June 16, 2020) — Sunday’s hit-and-run motorcycle accident on Petaluma Boulevard South near Landing Way left two people hospitalized.
According to California Highway Patrol Spokesman David deRutte, the 5:50 p.m. crash happened just north of Landing Way.
Authorities received reports about a maroon or dark red Chevrolet pickup colliding with a motorcycle and then fleeing the scene.
CHP officers learned that the Chevrolet and BMW motorcycle traveled south on Petaluma Boulevard. As the motorcycle trailed behind the truck, the Chevrolet attempted a right turn, appearing as though it were exiting the road.
However, the Chevrolet steered back into the southbound lane and made an illegal left turn, directly in front of the motorcycle’s path.
As a result, the BMW bike slammed into the left side of the pickup truck, hurling its operator—a 53-year-old Petaluma man—and the man’s passenger—a 47-year-old Oakland woman.
Both riders suffered major injuries and were rushed to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Fortunately, reports indicated that both are expected to survive their injuries.
Now, officers need witnesses’ help in locating the Chevy truck and its driver. In addition, police believe the truck sustained left side body damage from the accident. As a result, if anyone would like to provide input, please call the Santa Rosa CHP office at 707-588-1400.
