Bicyclist Hospitalized in Oxnard Crash
OXNARD, CA (June 25, 2020)—A man suffered serious injuries following Monday’s bicycle accident on Oxnard Boulevard and South Rose Avenue.
According to Oxnard Police Cmdr. Luis Mc Arthur, the incident unfolded when a northbound driver, traveling on Oxnard Boulevard, tried attempting a right turn onto South Rose Avenue; however, officers remain unsure as to if the bicyclist had been in the bike lane when the 71-year-old driver struck him.
The unidentified cyclist suffered multiple injuries, including broken ribs, a fractured vertebra and injuries to his head and neck. Paramedics transported him to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment.
Although his name has not been released, police described him as a 56-year-old who had failed to use a helmet in the 6 a.m. crash.
The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.
According to their investigation, detectives do not suspect alcohol and/or drugs to have had played a role; thus, no arrests have been made.
To carve down the risks of accidents happening, pay attention to your surroundings and drive responsibly. Putting all distractions away, driving at a safe speed and remaining vigilant of the road always can make a difference in keeping you and others safe on the road.
