16-Year-Old Jack Munday Killed in SUV Rollover Crash on Carlsbad Village Drive [Carlsbad, CA]
Jack Munday Killed, Several Minors Hurt in Solo-Car Crash
CARLSBAD, CA (June 25, 2020) — A 16-year-old boy died early Wednesday following a solo-vehicle collision on Carlsbad Village Drive near Valley Street.
According to police, a 1999 Toyota 4Runner shuttling eight minors around 2:30 a.m. lost control and overturned several times before coming to a stop on its side near Valley Street.
In the wake of the crash, 16-year-old Jack Munday, a Coastal Academy High School student, died shortly after at a nearby hospital.
Seven other minors between 16 to 18 years old sustained injuries ranging from minor to major. Reports noted that three of the seven teens riding in the Toyota fled the area for unexplained reasons. However, they were found about a block away near Carlsbad Village and Pio Pico drives.
Per reports, the Toyota 4Runner has five standard seats, along with an optional third row, which adds two more seats. Police, however, believe that at least one person may have had been in the trunk of the SUV at the time of the accident.
The leading cause of the incident has not been confirmed. Thus far, alcohol has been ruled out as a possible factor.
While detectives determine the events that took place prior to the impact, the Munday family has created a GoFundMe page to raise awareness and help for Jack’s Memorial.
We would like to send our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Jack Munday.
