Alejandro Mandujano Arrested, 3 Injured after DUI Crash on Eucalyptus Avenue [Winton, CA]
Alejandro Mandujano, Wendy Gutierrez and Nelson Heredia Hurt in DUI Car Crash at Eucalyptus Avenue and Shaffer Road
WINTON, CA (June 23, 2020) — A DUI accident at Eucalyptus Avenue and Shaffer Road Sunday left four people injured.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Zuniga, officers responded after receiving reports of a two-car accident involving an overturned vehicle.
Crews arrived around 2:30 a.m. and found the driver of a Honda Civic who had been partially ejected through the front windshield of the car. Additionally, a right front female passenger of the Honda appeared to have been partially ejected out of the passenger door.
Another vehicle involved in the crash — a Dodge Durango — was located in the northeast corner of the intersection on its passenger side. According to authorities, its driver, whom authorities identified as Wendy Bojorquez Gutierrez, and Gutierrez’s right-front passenger, Nelson Heredia, exited their vehicle to safety. As a result, both sustained minor injuries in the accident.
According to police investigations, the Dodge Durango was traveling northbound on Shaffer Road at about 50 mph while approaching the intersection with Eucalyptus Avenue. Meanwhile, the Honda headed eastbound on Eucalyptus Avenue. However, it either failed to stop at the stop sign or stopped and pulled into the intersection. As a result, it crossed into the path of the northbound Dodge. Subsequently, both cars collided.
CHP officers have revealed that neither the driver nor passenger of the Honda was wearing a seatbelt.
They did confirm that the driver, identified as Alejandro Cortes Mandujano, had been impaired at the time. Police arrested him on suspicion of DUI and will book him into the Merced County Jail.
