James Fristoe, Jeffrey Pettit Killed in Wrong-Way Accident on 5 Freeway [Sacramento, CA]
James Fristoe, Jeffrey Pettit Die in Wrong-Way 5 Freeway Collision
SACRAMENTO, CA (June 22, 2020) — A wrong-way collision early Friday on the 5 Freeway near Power Line Road left two people dead.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to a 12:37 a.m. report about a wrong-way driver in a Subaru Outback SUV.
Traveling in the wrong direction on the southbound 5 Freeway, the Subaru subsequently struck an oncoming Honda Accord shuttling two people inside.
Tragically, 60-year-old James Raymond Fristoe — the driver of the Honda — and Jeffrey Pettit — the 49-year-old Subaru driver from Sonoma — perished at the scene.
A 56-year-old female passenger riding with Fristoe sustained major injuries and was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.
However, investigators have yet to uncover the leading cause of the accident and whether speed or impairment played a role.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the bereaved families and friends of James Raymond Fristoe and Jeffrey Pettit.
