4 Dead After Car Crashes off 80 Freeway [Crockett, CA]
Perla Navarro, Kyle Erickson, Christopher Mata and Cecilia Ayala Killed in Crockett Car Accident
CROCKETT, CA (June 18, 2020) — Four people, including two teens, died Tuesday night after their car crashes off 80 Freeway near Pomona Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 8:40 p.m. on the eastbound side of the freeway at Carquinez Bridge.
The four were traveling in an Infiniti SUV when it veered off the road and struck a concrete barrier near an elevated section of the bridge, just east of the Pomona Avenue exit. Subsequently, the SUV plunged off the freeway — about 15 stories high — and struck a stationary freight train before hitting the ground near the C & H Sugar factory.
Shortly after, firefighters arrived at the scene. After that, officials extricated all four victims from the wreckage only to pronounce them deceased on arrival.
Officials have identified the victims as Perla Navarro, 19, of Richmond; Kyle Erickson, 19, of Pittsburg; Christopher Mata, 21, of Rodeo; and Cecilia Ayala, 22, of Hayward.
Authorities confirmed that Navarro had been the driver when the vehicle veered from the far-left lane and spun out, crossing all lanes over the railing. A GoFundMe page has been created by her loved ones.
Our hearts go out to the families and friends of Perla Navarro, Kyle Erickson, Christopher Mata and Cecilia Ayala.
