Nyrik Anderson Dead, Bryant Colin Detained Following DUI 215 Freeway Accident Near Newport Road
MENIFEE, CA (June 18, 2020)—A DUI multi-car accident Tuesday on the 215 Freeway near Newport Road left one passenger dead and three others injured.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 8:38 p.m.
CHP Officer Mike Lassig said 24-year-old Bryant Martinez Colin was driving a 2014 Toyota Tacoma southbound on the freeway at a high rate of speed. Colin failed to observe stopped traffic ahead and plowed into the rear of a 2004 Honda Accord. The impact subsequently sent the Honda into the rear of a 2017 Ford Fusion.
The devastating crash left the 22-year-old female Honda driver with moderate injuries, prompting paramedics to transport her to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar.
Her passenger, whom officials identified as 26-year-old Nyrik Anderson from Menifee, sustained serious injuries. However, he died at 10:17 p.m.
Reports noted that the 7-month-old boy riding with Colin sustained minor injuries and was taken to Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta for further evaluation.
As for the Ford Fusion driver, he or she dodged harm.
Suffering minor injuries, Colin received treatment at Temecula Valley Hospital before officers placed him under arrest. They have charged him with suspicion of murder, vehicular manslaughter, child endangerment and DUI.
