Man Struck and Killed by Amtrak Train near Grand Avenue [El Segundo, CA]
Pedestrian Dies in Train Accident near Grand Avenue and Washington Street in El Segundo
EL SEGUNDO, CA (June 15, 2020) – Police confirmed that a man died after he was struck by an Amtrak train near Grand Avenue on Monday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened close to the Carlsbad Village Train Station near Washington Street at approximately 2:30 PM.
Reports showed that a southbound Amtrak train was traveling at about 80-90 miles per hour prior to the accident. At that time, the victim walked onto the railroad tracks. In addition, the white male adult stood on the tracks and faced the train while the engineer sounded the warning horn. The male did not move and the train struck him.
The unidentified victim died at the scene.
Police did not release additional details related to the crash. However, they continue to investigate the crash.
