SANTA CLARITA, CA (June 5, 2020) — A police pursuit that ended in a crash on Soledad Canyon Road near Highway 14 Thursday sent one driver to a hospital.
 
The incident befell after midnight when deputies found a car driving erratically and nearly hitting other vehicles nearby.
 
Deputies tried making a traffic stop. However, the suspect, described as a man in his late 30s, failed to yield, leading them on a short-lived pursuit.
 
The chase lasted only three miles before it came to a stop at the Highway 14 on-ramp at Soledad Canyon Road. There, the suspect struck an occupied vehicle around 12:09 a.m. before exiting the damaged car and fleeing on foot.
 
Officers continued to pursue the man as he took them along the shoulder of the highway where he subsequently ran into a wash. There, officers tried containing the suspect before eventually detaining him at gunpoint.
 
Upon arrest, the suspect began exhibiting signs of intoxication, leading investigators to believe that DUI likely played a role.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics responded to the area of the crash to transport the driver to a local hospital with minor injuries.
