Car Crash on Weedpatch Highway Near Bengston Avenue [Bakersfield, CA]
8 Injured Following Two-Vehicle Crash in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 9, 2020) — A head-on car crash on Weedpatch Highway near Bengston Avenue Monday night left eight people hospitalized.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the head-on crash happened when one of the drivers tried passing slower moving traffic by using the opposing lane.
The 8:40 p.m. incident happened when a Subaru traveling northbound crossed the double yellow lines to pass up slower-moving vehicles. However, the Subaru ended up colliding with a southbound Chevy Suburban instead.
The two drivers suffered major injuries, and six people riding in the Suburban suffered minor to moderate injuries.
At this time, it is unclear whether intoxication or speed played a role; however, an investigation regarding the outstanding details is underway.
