Algetta Strother Killed, Steven Strother Jr. Arrested in Street Racing DUI Crash [San Bernardino, CA]
Algetta Strother Killed, Steven Strother Jr. Charged, Patricia James Hurt in San Bernardino Car Accident
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (June 11, 2020) — A woman died Monday night following a DUI-related street racing crash on 9th Street near North Waterman Avenue.
According to the San Bernardino Police, 26-year-old Steven Strother Jr. had been racing his 54-year-old mother Algetta Strother along 9th Avenue, just east of North Waterman Avenue.
The Strothers purportedly tried passing a Toyota Camry, driven by 28-year-old Abelardo Flores; however, at some point, Steven’s Buick Century struck the Camry, causing Algetta to lose control of her Chevrolet Tahoe SUV.
Subsequently, the Tahoe rolled over and struck a tree, a standpipe and a light pole. The impact ejected Algetta from the cabin, killing her at the scene.
A passenger inside the Tahoe, whom authorities identified as 21-year-old Patricia James of Buena Park, suffered unknown injuries. Neither Flores nor his passenger sustained any type of injuries in the accident.
According to investigations, police have learned that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. They have arrested Steven on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated; however, the crash remains under investigation and anyone with additional knowledge should call Detective Dan Acosta or Sgt. Jeff Harvey at 909-384-5792.
To the friends and family of Algetta Strother, we would like to extend our condolences to you during this time.
