Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on Owens Avenue [North Las Vegas, NV]
Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in North Las Vegas
NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (June 2, 2020) — A woman lost her life Saturday afternoon in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on West Owens Avenue near North Main Street.
According to a Metropolitan Police Department release, the accident happened around 4:03 p.m.
A preliminary investigation showed that a driver in a 2020 Toyota Camry traveled eastbound on West Owens Avenue, approaching North Main Street. Traveling at a high rate of speed, the driver veered off the road. After that, it drove onto the sidewalk where it struck a light pole and a bus stop. However, a woman had been standing at the bus stop.
Reports noted that the vehicle drove and dragged the pedestrian on the sidewalk before hitting another light pole and making a complete stop.
The driver failed to stop and render aid, leaving the scene on foot. Meanwhile, the woman suffered fatal injuries in the accident and died at the scene.
It is unclear whether intoxication played a role since officers are still seeking the whereabouts of the driver. If anyone would like to help authorities determine the driver’s identity, please call Metro’s collision investigation section at 702-828-3595.
