Female Cyclist Killed in Accident on Portola Parkway Near Highway 261 [Irvine, CA]
Bicyclist Fatally Hit by Driver in Irvine
IRVINE, CA (May 26, 2020) — A 70-year-old woman died following last Monday’s bicycle accident on Portola Parkway near Highway 261.
According to authorities, a driver of a gray Mercedes ML350 struck the 70-year-old woman around 10:00 a.m.
The woman died at the scene and her name has yet to be released pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the Mercedes stayed at the scene for police questioning, which proved that neither alcohol nor drugs played a factor in the accident.
Due to the circumstances of the crash, crews were forced to close Portola Parkway for several hours as they investigated what had occurred moments prior to the impact. By 4 p.m., officials reopened the roadway to commuters.
