John Dethlefsen Arrested After Fatal DUI Crash on Corona Road [Petaluma, CA]
DUI Driver Involved in Fatal Bicycle Crash near Highway 101
PETALUMA, CA (May 26, 2020) – Police arrested John Dethlefsen after a fatal DUI crash on Corona Road on Tuesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened near the Highway 101 overpass around 9:30 AM.
Dethlefsen, 65, of Petaluma was driving his white Honda Accord on the eastbound lane when he crossed over the double yellow lines into the westbound lane. As a result, he struck a bicyclist. He then continued east onto the overpass and struck an oncoming Ford F-150 that was traveling west on Corona Road.
Due to impact, officers pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene. Authorities withheld his name, pending notification of his family. Dethlefsen and the driver of the pickup truck did not sustain any injury in the incident.
Petaluma Police arrested John Dethlefsen on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
The authorities did not release further details. However, they asked anyone with information about the crash to contact the Petaluma Police Traffic Office at 707-781-1275.
