Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 26, 2020) — A hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Jamacha Road near Glencoe Drive claimed one man’s life Thursday.
According to San Diego Police Officer Robert Heims, the incident befell just before 11:00 p.m. in the 8100 block of Jamacha Road.
Police say a 21-year-old man driving a BMW sedan westbound on Jamacha Road struck a 28-year-old male pedestrian. Investigators believe the pedestrian was walking westbound in the eastbound lanes prior to the impact.
Moments following, paramedics transported the patient to a nearby hospital where he died. His identity has been withheld pending notification of family members.
As for the driver of the BMW, police officers say he fled the scene, parked his vehicle a few blocks from the crash site and walked away; however, his attempt to flee fell short as patrol officers located him and arrested him on suspicion of fleeing the fatal accident.
According to investigations, intoxication did not play a role, but traffic detectives plan to investigate the circumstances further.
