Armando Hernandez Jr. Shoots, Injures 3 at West Glendale and North 91st Avenues
GLENDALE, AZ (May 22, 2020) — A 20-year-old faces multiple charges after a shooting at an entertainment plaza at Glendale Avenue and 91st Avenue on Wednesday.
According to Maricopa County prosecutor Edward Leiter, Armando Hernandez Jr. had the intention of taking out his anger at society, feeling as though he was bullied and that women did not want him.
Further reports indicated that the 20-year-old, who opened fire at Westgate Entertainment District, was deliberately targeting couples. As a matter of fact, two of the three victims appear to have been a couple.
The three victims are described as a 30-year-old woman, a 16-year-old girl who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and a 19-year-old man who remains in critical condition.
Officers charged Hernandez with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, three counts of aggravated assault with serious physical injury and other multiple accounts.
According to investigators, Hernandez arrived at Westgate Entertainment District and surveyed the area. After that, he returned to his vehicle to retrieve weapons, including three rifle magazines.
Hernandez had intentionally attempted to harm 10 victims. However, he only harmed three people in his attack around 7:25 p.m.
An officer reported to the scene and took Hernandez into custody after a friend of his – identified as Devon Cordova – informed authorities of his act, proven by a Snapchat video. The Snapchat video, documented and posted by Hernandez, showed the events before and during the shooting.
No other information surrounding this incident was available. However, Westgate Entertainment District continues to work with the Glendale Police Department.
