Byern Smith Struck and Killed by Hit-And-Run Driver on 7th Street [Los Angeles, CA]
Hit-and-Run Driver Maria Perez Arrested After Fatal Accident near Channing Street
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 7, 2020) – Police identified Byern Smith as the victim who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in the 1600 block of East 7th Street on Thursday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened near Channing Street.
A report from the LAPD showed the victim walking on the roadway when an unidentified vehicle hit him. The driver did not stop to help.
As a result, emergency crews declared Smith, 51, dead at the scene.
A surveillance video captured a woman leaving a white 2005 Scion xB after she parked it at Gladys Avenue.
As a result, officials later identified the woman as 59-year-old Maria Perez of Bell Gardens. Officials arrested her for felony hit-and-run and felony warrants and misdemeanor warrants.
LAPD officers did not provide further information.
