Arturo Canales Dies in Wrong-Way Accident on 8 Freeway Near Milepost 58

 
YUMA, AZ (May 19, 2020) — A wrong-way collision on the 8 Freeway near Milepost 58 last Sunday left one driver dead.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the 6:25 a.m. accident took place when an eastbound driver was traveling in the westbound lanes.
 
Authorities identified the driver as 41-year-old Arturo Canales, of Phoenix, who crashed his vehicle into another before both cars ruptured into flames.
 
Passers-by who witnessed the crash assisted both drivers out from their respective burning vehicles. Unfortunately, Canales succumbed to his injuries at the scene while paramedics airlifted the other driver to Goodyear with serious injuries.
 
Because details remain unclear, authorities plan to investigate this crash further to determine if DUI played a role.
