Josephine Espiritu Struck and Killed by Speeding Car on Santa Fe Avenue [Long Beach, CA]
Street Racing Leads to Fatal Pedestrian Accident near Hill Street
LONG BEACH, CA (May 11, 2020) – Police identified Josephine Espiritu as the victim who died after she was struck by a racing car on Santa Fe Avenue on Monday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened near Hill Street around 6:40 PM.
The 59-year-old woman crossed the street in a marked crosswalk when a Lexus sedan that was racing with another vehicle ran a red light. As a result, the sedan crashed into a minivan and one of the vehicles hit Espiritu. The driver of the other car involved in the racing activity fled the scene.
Police found Espiritu unconscious and not breathing. She died at the scene.
The driver of the sedan suffered critical injuries. The driver of the minivan suffered minor injuries.
Police did not release any other details. However, they are investigating the incident.
