15-Year-Old Jayden Arias Killed, Harvey Jacobo Arrested in DUI Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crash [Porterville, CA]
15-year-old Jayden Arias Dies, Harvey Jacobo Detained in DUI Bicycle-Vehicle Crash on Olive Avenue at South Westwood Street
PORTERVILLE, CA (May 8, 2020) — A teen died Tuesday evening after being struck by a DUI hit-and-run driver on Olive Avenue at South Westwood Street.
According to police, 15-year-old Jayden Arias died at a hospital after a dark-colored vehicle struck him around 6:55 p.m. Investigators surmise that the 15-year-old was biking north on Westwood Street, crossing Olive Avenue, when the vehicle collided with him.
However, the driver failed to stop and render aid, and continued westbound on Olive Avenue.
Shortly after, officers found the suspect’s vehicle parked in the 1700 block of West Olive Avenue, where it led them to a home in the 500 block of South Milo Street. At a residence, police interviewed 23-year-old Harvey Jacobo, who they believe had been at the wheel of the car. Due to his intoxication state, officers arrested him, learning that he holds a suspended driver’s license for prior DUIs.
Officers booked Jacobo into Tulare County South County Detention Facility. Police arrested him on suspicion of hit-and-run causing death, DUI causing death, driving with a suspended driver’s license, and other charges.
Jacobo now faces second-degree murder charges. However, the family and friend of Arias – who was a sophomore at Porterville high school – have been trying to keep it together.
We would like to express our condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Jayden Arias.
