Spencer Sandridge Dies in 405 Freeway Crash Involving Caltrans Truck
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (May 5, 2020)—A driver of a sedan died Thursday night after striking a Caltrans vehicle on the 405 Freeway near Beach Boulevard.
According to authorities, the Dodge Dart driver crashed into a sign truck and trailer as Caltrans worker began setting up a road closure on the southbound freeway. The sedan subsequently struck the center divider before coming to a rest in the traffic lanes.
At some point during the accident, the Dodge struck one worker who had been standing outside the truck before striking the car, which carried the other worker inside. Both Caltrans workers suffered injuries that were deemed non-life-threatening.
Coroner’s office has identified the fatal victim in the 10:40 p.m. crash as Spencer Sandridge, 27, of Costa Mesa. An investigation surrounding the factors that contributed to the incident is underway.
