Nicholas Baker Detained Following Deadly DUI Bicycle Accident in Goleta
GOLETA, CA (April 28, 2020) — A bicyclist died Sunday night following a hit-and-run, DUI crash on Calle Real near Violet Lane.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the unidentified bicyclist and the suspect were traveling eastbound on Calle Real when the incident ensued. Instead of stopping at the scene, the suspect, however, fled, failing to render aid to the gravely injured bicyclist.
Reports say that the unidentified victim died before deputies arrived.
Regarding the driver who left the scene, he has been identified by officers as 20-year-old Nicholas Baker. Police located his car in the 900 block of Camino Del Sur, where they arrested the Goleta man for hit and run causing injury or death, involuntary vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence causing injury.
