Driver Strikes Man in Barstow Crash
BARSTOW, CA (April 20, 2020) — A driver fatally struck and killed a man on the 15 Freeway near Highway 247 last Thursday.
According to officials, a 43-year-old Las Vegas man died late Thursday when he stepped out of his disabled car on the 15 Freeway. Authorities determined that he drove a 2002 Hyundai Elantra. However, for unknown reasons, his vehicle became disabled in the southbound lanes.
California Highway Patrol reports indicated that around 9:53 p.m., a 23-year-old woman from Porterville driving a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro in the No. 1 lane struck the pedestrian as he tried crossing the southbound lanes.
Immediately after the crash, the woman pulled over and contacted 911.
However, even responding with haste, paramedics arrived and pronounced the unidentified man deceased around 10:10 p.m.
Investigations have ruled out alcohol and drugs as possible factors in the accident. However, officials are continuing their search for other possibilities.
