Driver Dead After Solo-Car Crash near Fruit Street

 
LA VERNE, CA (April 19, 2020) – Authorities identified Alexander Penafiel as the driver killed in a rollover crash on 210 Freeway westbound on Sunday night.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at the Fruit Street off-ramp around 6:00 PM.
 
Penafiel, 32, of Alta Loma drove a 1999 Nissan Sentra when he lost control of the car while attempting to avoid a car after abruptly changing lanes.
 
As a result, he veered off the road before hitting a dirt embankment, causing the car to overturn and hit a metal pole.
 
Penafiel ejected from the car. As a result, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Authorities also said alcohol, speed, and the weather were suspected to be factors in the crash.
