Tony Kesterson Arrested in Fatal DUI Crash on Highway 20 [Meridian, CA]
Tony Kesterson Arrested for DUI Following Car Accident on Highway 20 Near South Tarke Road
MERIDIAN, CA (April 21, 2020)—A 10-year-old boy died Sunday evening in a suspected DUI collision on Highway 20 near South Tarke Road.
According to authorities, the child’s identity has not been released, but officials described him as a 10-year-old boy from Colusa.
California Highway Patrol investigating the crash determined that around 6:30 p.m., a Ford Fusion traveling eastbound on the highway, while exceeding the speed limit, lost control. The Ford, driven by 29-year-old Tony Kesterson of Colusa, subsequently crashed into a concrete wall on the westbound side.
Shortly after, a 59-year-old Sacramento man in a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck tried avoiding the crash, given his 50-mph speed of travel; however, he grew unsuccessful and struck the right rear of the Ford, consequently causing major damage to both cars.
The boy, who had been an occupant of the Ford Fusion, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Kesterson suffered compound fractures to his spine while the pickup truck driver–the sole occupant of the Toyota–was not injured.
Following their investigation, officers ended up booking Kesterson on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter with gross neglect.
