2 Men Killed in High-Speed Crash on 680 Freeway Near Bernal Avenue [Pleasanton, CA]
Fatal Pleasanton Crash on 680 Freeway
PLEASANTON, CA (April 20, 2020) — Two men died Friday morning following a high-speed crash on 680 Freeway near Bernal Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officials described them as Oakland residents. The 2:15 a.m. crash ejected both occupants from their 1996 Lexus sedan after neither man used a seatbelt for safety.
Per investigations, the Lexus vehicle struck the left rear of a semi-truck while traveling at speeds of about 100 miles per hour in the second-from-the-far-left lane. Investigators say the tractor-trailer was traveling about 56 miles per hour at the time.
The force of the collision sent the Lexus spinning out of control. After that, it crashed into the center divider before traveling to the right shoulder.
In the wake of the destruction, the 23-year-old man and the 22-year-old man died at the scene after being ejected. Meanwhile, the 48-year-old Bay Point driver of the semi-truck did not suffer any injuries.
Authorities hope to determine more from this crash and ask witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
