Lateishia Atkinson Fatally Hit by Driver on 15 Freeway Near Nipton Road
NIPTON, CA (April 20, 2020)—A 32-year-old woman died following a pedestrian accident on the 15 Freeway near Nipton Road Friday night.
According to San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner officials, Lateishia Atkinson, of Las Vegas, died at the scene. In addition, officials stated the crash happened near the California-Nevada state line.
California Highway Patrol officials investigated the crash and have determined that her 2002 Honda Accord became disabled in the right shoulder of the southbound freeway.
Around 8:20 p.m., Atkinson began walking across the interstate for unknown reasons. Shortly after, a 2016 Ford Escape struck her in the No. 2 lane.
The 56-year-old Grand Terrace Ford driver stopped along the shoulder. By 9:00 p.m., San Bernardino County Fire Department personnel pronounced Atkinson dead at the scene, even after rendering resuscitation efforts.
According to authorities, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be contributing sources to the accident. However, an ongoing investigation continues. In addition, anyone with information should call 760-255-5900.
