Margarita Ruiz Dies After Brick Crashes into Car Windshield on Highway 242 [Concord, CA]
Margarita Ruiz Killed After Brick Hits Car on Highway 242 Near Highway 4
CONCORD, CA (April 16, 2020) — A 63-year-old woman died Friday night after a brick struck a vehicle’s windshield on Highway 242 near Highway 4.
According to authorities, the fatal incident happened around 9:30 p.m.
Margarita Erostico Ruiz was sitting in the front passenger seat of a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta traveling north on Highway 242. As the gray Volkswagen began passing underneath the Highway 4 overpass, a brick fell from the overpass, striking Ruiz where she’d been sitting.
Despite incessant efforts to save her by First Responders, Ruiz died at the scene.
Her 20-year-old grandson driving the car and 11 and 13-year-old granddaughters, who were in the backseat, sustained no injuries.
During the investigation, authorities found several bricks on the shoulder of the Highway 4 overpass. Evidence indicates that someone might have deliberately thrown or dropped a brick from the overpass since there had been no reports of passing cars striking any objects.
The Contra Costa CHP urges witnesses with information to call them at (925) 646-4980.
