Colby Brookman Arrested in Fatal DUI Crash on Grand Avenue [Oroville, CA]
Colby Brookman Detained, JLynne Stothers Involved in Deadly DUI Crash into Oroville Canal
OROVILLE, CA (April 16, 2020) — Three people, including two children, died Easter Sunday in a DUI canal crash on Grand Avenue near Gold Country Lane.
According to Oroville California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Ben Draper, the accident took place around 7:00 p.m. and involved a 2004 GMC Sierra pickup.
The GMC, driven by 27-year-old Colby Allen Brookman, was reportedly traveling westbound at a high rate of speed on Grand Avenue; however, Brookman failed to stop the truck at the end of the road. As a result, the truck slammed through a fence, struck an embankment and went airborne into a nearby canal.
Brookman and his 23-year-old female passenger, whom authorities identified as JLynne Stothers of Sacramento, escaped the sinking pick up.
Unfortunately, a 32-year-old man from Oroville, as well as a 1-year-old girl and a 7-month-old girl sitting in the backseat died in the crash.
Investigations proved that DUI played a role in the fatal accident, which led officers to arrest the Sacramento man for felony DUI, vehicular manslaughter, and felony child endangerment.
