Jose Zaragoza Strikes, Kills Pedestrian on Road 26 Near Avenue 17 1/2
MADERA, CA (April 14, 2020)—A woman pushing a shopping cart died in Sunday’s pedestrian accident on Road 26 near Avenue 17 1/2.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the unidentified woman had been pushing a shopping cart across Road 26 when the 10:30 p.m. crash took place.
Investigators say that a northbound Kia, traveling northbound around 48 miles per hour, struck the 55-year-old Susanville victim.
The driver — 19-year-old Jose David Zaragoza — reportedly left the scene and went home. According to reports, he was unaware that he had struck the pedestrian. However, upon inspecting the damage on his vehicle, he returned to the site of the accident. After that, he cooperated with police investigators.
Police determined that the Madera teen was not under the influence of either alcohol or drugs and did not book him on any charges.
At this time, our law firm would like to express its heartfelt sympathies to the friends and family of the victim.
