Fatal Santa Barbara Broadside Crash on Highway 154
SANTA BARBARA, CA (April 10, 2020) — A broadside crash on Highway 154 and Painted Cave Road left one person dead and three others hospitalized Thursday evening.
Around 6:03 p.m., the Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to reports of a two-car crash. The first engine arrived and said that two cars crashed in a broadside fashion.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash involved a blue Mazda sedan and a blue Toyota 4Runner SUV.
Four people sustained injuries of various severities; one appeared to be in critical condition, another in moderate condition while two sustained only minor injuries.
Firefighters had to perform extrication efforts to get one passenger out of the blue Mazda. Unfortunately, that Thursday night, one of the four patients died due to critical injuries. The coroner’s office has yet to release the victim’s name.
Surrounding the cause and circumstances of the crash, authorities plan to examine these details further.
Our hearts and deepest sympathies go out to the bereaved family and friends of the victim.
