2 Injured After Ambulance and Big Rig Crash on Highway 99 Near Standiford Avenue [Modesto, CA]
EMT and Medic Injured in Modesto Accident
MODESTO, CA (April 7, 2020) — Two people sustained injuries after an ambulance collided in a big rig crash on Highway 99 near Standiford Avenue Monday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol Modesto office, officials responded to reports of a crash around 1:00 a.m.
For unknown reasons, a big rig heading northbound on the highway drifted off the road, plowed into a sign before traveling back onto the highway and subsequently overturning.
The big rig ended up blocking the northbound lanes of travel; however, the driver did not sustain any injuries.
Shortly thereafter, an ambulance collided with the back of the overturned rig.
As a result, an EMT and a medic suffered minor injuries in the accident, and officers contacted Caltrans to the scene to help clean up produce that had purportedly spilled onto the highway.
Due to investigations and clean up, commuters faced a closure on the highway just south of the Standiford Avenue exit.
