Gabriella Perez-Ramirez Dies in Wrong-Way Crash on 580 Freeway [Livermore, CA]
Gabriella Perez-Ramirez Killed in Wrong-Way DUI Accident on 580 Freeway Near North Livermore Avenue
LIVERMORE, CA (March 30, 2020)—A wrong-way, suspected DUI accident on the 580 Freeway near North Livermore Avenue Sunday morning tragically claimed a woman’s life.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the Manteca woman driving in the opposite direction has been identified as 24-year-old Gabriella Perez-Ramirez.
The event first unfolded around 6:21 a.m. when CHP dispatch responded to calls about a wrong-way vehicle traveling west on the eastbound side of the freeway. However, dispatch continued to respond to calls about the wrong-way car, which authorities confirmed was a 2004 Buick LeSabre.
The CHP team responded immediately; however, it had been too late. The Buick collided head-on with an eastbound 2014 Nissan Altima near the North Livermore Avenue exit.
Due to the severe nature of the crash, Perez-Ramirez died at the scene. After that, CHP officers learned through investigations that she failed to wear her seatbelt and believe alcohol might have played a role.
The Nissan driver—a 33-year-old woman from Newark—sustained major injuries. As a result, paramedics transported her to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley for treatment.
Officers closed all eastbound lanes of the freeway, as crews scoured for evidence and cleared the area. However, by 8:36 a.m., they reopened the entire freeway.
Our hearts and deepest sympathies go out to the bereaved family and friends of Gabriella Perez-Ramirez.
