Pedro Matias-Perez Arrested in DUI Hit-and-Run Crash on Genesee Avenue [San Diego, CA]
Pedro Matias-Perez Arrested Following DUI Hit-and-Run Accident
SAN DIEGO, CA (April 6, 2020) — A DUI hit-and-run crash at Genesee and Sauk avenues Friday afternoon left two people, including a pedestrian, with injuries.
According to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department, the crash happened around 3:35 p.m. A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado traveling northbound in the 4800 block of Genesee Avenue veered to the left and struck a raised center median. The truck subsequently overcorrected to the right and overturned before striking a light pole.
Due to the impact, the light pole unhinged from its base and struck a 68-year-old female pedestrian on the sidewalk before coming to a rest on a home’s roof.
As a result of the crash, the unidentified pedestrian sustained a deep cut to the back of her head along with a scratch to her left arm. Paramedics brought her to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Heims added.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old passenger and the driver tried fleeing from the truck but were caught by local authorities. The passenger suffered a torn skin and received treatment at a hospital.
Regarding the 27-year-old driver, whom officers identified as Pedro Matias-Perez, police arrested and booked him on suspicion of DUI and felony hit-and-run.
