2 Drivers Critically Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on 8 Freeway Near 70th Street [La Mesa, CA]
DUI in La Mesa Wrong-Way Crash on 8 Freeway
LA MESA, CA (March 27, 2020)—Two people sustained life-threatening injuries in Wednesday’s wrong-way collision on the 80 Freeway near 70th street.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow, dispatchers received several calls around 11:55 p.m. about an SUV traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes. A few minutes later, more calls poured in about a two-vehicle crash just east of the 70th Street exit.
A 28-year-old San Diego man driving a Ford Expedition SUV collided with a BMW 650i, driven by a 45-year-old San Diego man. As a result, the two-car accident blocked the eastbound lanes of the 8 Freeway.
Police investigators combed the scene for evidence, which led them to believe that the Ford driver might have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. However, more investigation regarding this account continues.
Paramedics transported both drivers to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. As of late, their condition remains unknown.
Many wrong-way collisions happen due to impairment. If you are tipsy from drinking alcohol or high from some mind-altering substance, seek other forms of getting home. You could save lives by making more responsible decisions instead of driving home. As a result, drinking and driving will cause more problems for yourself and those around you.
