Ariell Gipson Killed, Irineo Del Castillo Arrested After DUI Accident on 5th Street [San Bernardino, CA]
DUI Driver Involved in Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on 5th Street near H Street in San Bernardino
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (December 5, 2020) – Police identified Ariell Gipson as the victim who died in a DUI accident on 5th Street on early Saturday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near H Street at approximately 1:46 AM.
Based on a report, the young woman’s vehicle stopped at the red light. In front of it was a sheriff’s deputy van transporting several prisoners to a facility. Due to unknown reasons, the San Bernardino Police Department said 34-year-old Irineo Del Castillo approached the two vehicles from behind and rear-ended the victim’s car, pushing it into the back of the sheriff’s transport van. Witnesses told police the driver was speeding when the collision occurred.
As a result, Gipson suffered major internal injuries. Medics found her unresponsive in her car before they took her to the hospital, where she died of her injuries. The San Bernardino County coroner’s office identified her as a 26-year-old San Bernardino resident. The sheriff’s deputy and at least one inmate in the transport van received minor injuries in the collision.
Police arrested Del Castillo, of Riverside, on suspicion of DUI causing injury. At this point, the fatal crash remains under investigation.
