Man Killed in Rollover Crash on 5 Freeway near San Onofre Plant [Camp Pendleton, CA]
One Killed, Two Injured in Camp Pendleton Rollover Crash on 5 Freeway
CAMP PENDLETON, CA (October 20, 2020) – Police confirmed that a 71-year-old man died in a rollover crash on 5 Freeway near San Onofre Plant on Tuesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened in the northbound lane shortly after 5:50 AM.
Based on a report, the victim was inside a Toyota SUV that crashed and rolled over several times in the highway lanes. As a result, the impact ejected the elderly man from the vehicle.
Emergency crews requested a medical helicopter to airlift the victim. However, he died at the scene before the helicopter arrived. Officials did not yet release the man’s name pending family notification. In addition, crews transported two other people in the Toyota to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo for treatment of moderate injuries.
No details about the cause of the crash were immediately available. However, officials continue to investigate the case.
