Jose Berrelleza Run Over, Killed During Van Theft on South Melinda Circle [Anaheim, CA]
Jose Berrelleza Killed, Omar Sanchez, Yesenia Escareno and Adriana Gomez Arrested in Anaheim Theft
ANAHEIM, CA (September 24, 2020) — A 33-year-old man died Tuesday after being run over by his work van during a theft on South Melinda Circle near East Elsiena Way.
According to police, Jose DeJesus Berrelleza tried stopping three thieves from getting into his work van. However, the events took a turn for the worst.
Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer said Berrelleza tried confronting one of the suspects in the 100 S. Melinda Circle as they tried robbing his work van around 6:20 a.m.
At some point during the robbery, one of the suspects struck Berrelleza with his work van and sped off.
Unfortunately, Berrelleza, of Anaheim, died at the scene.
Shortly thereafter, officers recovered the stolen van and arrested two women and a man in connection to his death.
According to news reports, 28-year-old Omar Sanchez and 21-year-old Yesenia Escareno—both residents of Anaheim—faces charges of suspicion of murder, carjacking and receiving stolen property. Meanwhile, 29-year-old Adriana Gomez faces charges of being an accessory.
