1-Year-Old Hit, Killed by Car at Lei Drive and Polynesian Drive [Long Beach, CA]
Child Dies in Long Beach Pedestrian Accident
LONG BEACH, CA (August 17, 2020) — A 1-year-old boy died Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle at Lei and Polynesian drives.
According to news reports, officers responded to the scene to investigate the fatal crash that occurred around 8:00 p.m.
The Long Beach Police Department says that a toddler and his father had just exited out of a vehicle after being dropped off by their Rideshare driver.
Officers add that after having exited the vehicle, the father became distracted while the boy ran in front of the vehicle.
The driver of the car subsequently pulled away from the curb, failing to see the child in front of the car, and struck him.
Shortly after, paramedics responded to the scene to transport the 1-year-old to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
At this time, an investigation remains in place.
Police did not arrest the driver at the scene. However, if anyone has information regarding this incident, please call Long Beach Police Department at (562) 570-7132.
