Fatal Head-On Crash on Highway 299 in Shasta Claims 2 Lives
SHASTA, CA (August 17, 2020) — A head-on crash on Highway 299 near Buckhorn Summit on Friday claimed two lives, reports say.
According to officials, the two-car crash happened around 2:30 p.m. Authorities arrived at the scene and learned that a Toyota sedan heading eastbound on Highway 299 crossed over the double yellow lines for unclear reasons.
The Toyota sedan subsequently struck a westbound pickup truck before both cars engulfed in flames, which spread to nearby vegetation.
Tragically, both drivers died in the collision, and no passengers were found at the scene.
Responding CAL Fire crews arrived moments later to extinguish the flames, preventing it from spreading any further.
At this time, investigators are left with uncertainty and depend on witnesses’ help in identifying the cause and factors that led to this accident.
