Man Struck and Killed by Vehicle While Fleeing Deputies on Highway 180 at Clovis Avenue in Fresno
FRESNO, CA (July 27, 2020) – Police confirmed that a man got killed in a pedestrian accident on Highway 180 on late Monday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened just west of Clovis Avenue around 11:30 PM.
Based on reports, Fresno County sheriff’s deputies had been investigating a suspicious vehicle near the scene and detained two people during the stop. However, the victim, a 38-year-old man, ran off. He went through a fence onto the highway and ended up in the path of a Nissan Sentra.
As a result, the vehicle struck the man. Consequently, he died at the scene. It’s unclear if he was under the influence at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Nissan was not injured, but her passenger suffered cuts from broken glass. Both people cooperated with the officers.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is working with the CHP in the investigation. However, they don’t have additional information at this time.
