Ashley Garness Arrested for DUI, Woman Dies after Accident on Niles Street [Bakersfield, CA]
Ashley Garness Involved, Passenger Killed in Three-Vehicle DUI Accident
BAKERSFIELD, CA (May 22, 2020)—A three-vehicle accident at Niles Street and Mt Vernon Avenue early Thursday resulted in one arrest and one fatality.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the three-car accident unfolded around 2:00 a.m.
Ashley Garness, 22, reportedly ran a red light at the intersection, just blocks from East Bakersfield High School. Her Honda Civic struck a Volvo C70, causing minor injuries to its driver. Subsequently a third car, described as a Nissan Sentra, became involved in the accident. However, the driver drove off immediately after.
Arriving police found a passenger deceased inside the Honda Civic. Investigators determined that the female passenger had been en route to a hospital just before the crash. It appears she had sustained serious stab wounds in the 1100 block of East 9th Street before Garness tried getting her hospital treatment.
Police later arrested Garness for DUI. Reports say she suffered moderate injuries in the accident.
No other information regarding the crash was available.
