Fatal Big Rig Accident Reported on 5 Freeway in Los Banos

LOS BANOS, CA (January 7, 2021)—Several people died Tuesday night in a fiery accident with a tractor-trailer on the 5 Freeway near West Panoche Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle accident involved a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer.

Just 23 miles south of Highway 152, the pickup veered over the dirt median and slammed into the tractor-trailer. Subsequently, both vehicles ruptured into flames, killing multiple people at the scene.

As of 5 a.m., the lanes remained closed while officials directed commuters off the freeway at West panoche Road.

At this time, the cause of the crash remains ambiguous; however, anyone with information should contact the CHP.
