2 Dead in Fiery 2-Car Crash on 680 Freeway near Alcosta Boulevard [San Ramon, CA]
2 Killed in Two-Vehicle Accident in San Ramon
SAN RAMON, CA (January 11, 2021)—Early Sunday morning, two victims were killed in a 2-car crash on the 680 Freeway near Alcosta Boulevard.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident happened around 3:30 a.m. For unknown reasons, a driver in a southbound Volkswagen Jetta left the road and swerved back onto the freeway. Subsequently, the Volkswagen slammed into the center median wall, where a southbound Ford Fiesta crashed into it seconds later.
As a result, both cars sustained significant damage and a fire erupted, trapping two Jetta passengers inside.
Tragically, the two people died in the accident while another person inside the Jetta sustained major injuries, later receiving care at John Muir Walnut Creek.
The driver of the Ford Fiesta sustained moderate injuries and also received treatment at John Muir.
Because details remain unclear, detectives plan to comb through evidence to determine the ultimate cause of the crash. If anyone has more information, please call the Dublin CHP office at 925-828-0466.
We would like to express our heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved friends and families of the victims.
