Todd Welliver Dies After Big Rig Crashes Into Home on Highway 60 [Mesa, AZ]
Todd Welliver Killed Following Big Rig Accident Into Home on Highway 60 Near South Crimson Road
MESA, AZ (January 5, 2021)—One person died Thursday after a big rig crashed into a home on Highway 60 near South Crimson Road.
According to the Mesa Police Department, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Dec. 31. For indeterminate reasons, a semi-truck driver exited the freeway at South Crimson Road and failed to stop.
As a result, the semi-truck slammed into a sound barrier before crashing into a Mesa home where 10 people had been inside at the time.
Unfortunately, 50-year-old Todd Welliver sustained life-threatening injuries and died a short time later at a hospital.
In addition to those harmed, four people sustained unknown injuries, including the semi-truck operator.
Authorities have yet to determine the ultimate cause of the accident and have not ruled out impairment; however, detectives believe the driver may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the accident.
During the cleanup, crews contacted a Hazmat team due to leaked fuel, and investigators closed the on-ramp to Highway 60 East as they combed the scene.
If anyone has more information about this accident, please contact the Mesa Police Department.
