Manasseh Marion, Kaylee Perez Killed in Long Beach Wrong-Way Car Accident
LONG BEACH, CA (November 2, 2020) — Two people died following Saturday’s wrong-way accident on the 405 Freeway near Palo Verde Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the tragic incident befell around 3:50 a.m.
News reports say that a call came through about a wrong-way driver somewhere in Orange County. Shortly after, firefighters and paramedics arrived at the scene near the Palo Verde Avenue exit to transport at least seven people—two major trauma patients and five with minor injuries—to area hospitals.
Authorities have identified the fatal victims as 23-year-old Kaylee Perez of Los Angeles and 32-year-old Manasseh Marion of Long Beach.
According to investigations, Perez hopped onto the freeway’s carpool lane driving in the wrong direction during extremely foggy conditions. Not long after, her Nissan Altima collided with a Toyota Tacoma, driven by Marion, who had been on his way to work.
Due to the devastating events of the accident, two people, including Perez, were ejected from their cars.
At this time, information explaining why Perez was traveling in the wrong direction was unavailable.
However, anyone with more information surrounding the ultimate cause of the accident should contact local authorities.
We would like to express our heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of Manasseh Marion and Kaylee Perez.
