Ampelio Padilla Hospitalized in Deadly Two-Vehicle Collision on Hammett Road Near Covert Road

 
MODESTO, CA (October 12, 2020) — A Modesto man died in a two-car crash Friday afternoon on Hammett Road near Covert Road.
 
According to officers, the accident happened around 1:30 p.m. and blocked the area near the intersection.
 
Investigators determined that the Modesto man driving a Ford SUV drifted into the southbound lanes and struck a Flory Shuttle Truck.
 
As a result, the 36-year-old Ford driver died in the accident and the operator of the Flory—Ampelio Padilla—sustained moderate injuries.
 
Reports say paramedics transported him to Memorial Medical Center.
 
At this time, authorities have yet to determine whether alcohol or drugs played a factor; however, they do suspect speed might have precipitated the cause of the crash.
