Briauna Ramirez Dies in Wrong-Way DUI Accident on 105 Freeway Near Long Beach Boulevard
LONG BEACH, CA (October 26, 2020) — An 18-year-old woman died during Saturday’s wrong-way DUI crash on the 105 Freeway near Long Beach Boulevard.
According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, Briauna Ramirez died in the 3:00 a.m. crash that involved three cars.
Per reports, the wrong-way accident took place on the westbound side of the freeway.
California Highway Patrol said a 24-year-old driver of a 1999 Honda began traveling eastbound in the westbound No. 1 lane, where it struck a 2012 Honda head-on. At some point, a third vehicle became involved.
The 2012 Honda, which had been traveling about 75 mph prior to the impact, carried four passengers and one driver. Ramirez, the front seat passenger of the 2012 Honda, died at the scene. Meanwhile, both drivers and their surviving passengers suffered moderate to major injuries in the crash.
According to reports, the injured included two 28-year-old passengers—one from La Quinta and the other from Thousand Palms—a 29-year-old Coachella passenger and the 18-year-old driver from Coachella operating the 2012 Honda.
During the investigation, authorities determined that the wrong-way driver exhibited signs of impairment, which led to an arrest.
